About the work Even though I grew up in a "Native" home, I was not exposed to the Native tradition. Catholicism had wiped out all the traditional aspects of my people's past. Now I see a change. The traditions are being resurrected and I see this in my work. I find myself trying to bring life into all of my images. My Native background translates into my imagery and each one of my prints. At first my works were organic in nature, Now I find myself abstracting my images so that the subject is unknown to the viewer. I chose the printmaking process because of it physicality. Each image goes through process after process before I find a state that I find appealing. - Ann McLean
